March 21, 2019: The Board of Governors at SFU voted in favour of a tuition increase that saw fees increase to almost 20% for some students. All of this in the midst of very vocal student outrage and opposition. Although we weren’t able to get that tuition freeze, we need to keep fighting. This movement is far from over, and we need your help to keep us alight.
Here are some of the few things we would want your organizer/ volunteer efforts in:
- Tabling and canvassing. Are you fearless and charismatic, energized from talking to people? You’d be perfect for our tabling and canvassing team! Every week, we have tabling sessions to engage with the SFU student community. This is very important since students are what drives this movement. Your responsibilities will include: talking to students about tuition increases, encouraging them to coming to our events, getting volunteered signed up, and etc.
- Graphic designing. Is graphic design your passion (in addition to student activism)? Then this is where you belong. Throughout our campiagn, we need help to create infographics, event visuals, and a ton of other stuff to jazz out our information. Your responsibilities will include: turning our research into fun graphics, helping create images for our website and Facebook, take pictures for our events, and etc.
- Researching. One of the things our campign survives on is having a strong team of researchers to go through documents and determine what would be best for our messaging. There are ton of things to research, from public SFU documents to online engagement. Your responsibilities will include: working with the graphics team to make information digestible, digging through documents to find useful nuggets of info, and etc.
These are only a few of the things you can do to get involved.
